The wreck of the WWII US Navy aircraft carrier USS Hornet, sunk on Oct. 26, 1942 during the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands and lost for 76 years, has been found in the South Pacific 17,000 feet below the surface, near the Solomon Islands. It carried 2,200 crew, 140 of whom were lost that day.
